Scholarship Information
Target group:
- Highly qualified master’s students from underrepresented groups.
- Individuals facing various forms of underrepresentation, whether in terms of gender, sexual orientation, nationality or other.
Aim:
- Increase diversity in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Support students who may find it challenging to study in Germany.
Arrangements:
- Integration: scholarship holders have the option of joining an ELIZA fellow’s research group during their master’s studies.
- Thesis supervision: master’s theses will be supervised by an ELIZA fellow, either from academia or industry.
- Co-supervision: while optional, students are encouraged to benefit from the co-supervision of a second ELIZA fellow located at a different site.
- Curriculum participation: scholarship holders will follow the ELIZA curriculum.
- Course credit: possibility of enrolling in cross-listed master’s level courses from affiliated institutions and receiving regular course credit.
- Compliance: students must adhere to the master’s regulations of the hosting institution.
Funding:
- Funding will follow the official DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) rates.
- Additional support for married candidates and those with children.
- Relocation assistance is provided, with the specific amount depending on individual circumstances and following DAAD guidelines.
Duration of Funding:
- Funding is available until completion of the master’s program or for the standard study period (regelstudienzeit), typically two years after beginning the programme, whichever comes first.
- The default funding period is two years, though shorter durations may be considered in exceptional cases.
Admissions:
- The cut-off dates every year are the 25th of April and 25th of October, then scholarship decisions will be made for the respective semester.
- Only students from underrepresented groups are eligible to apply.
- Key criteria for acceptance include outstanding aptitude for master’s studies in machine learning-driven AI, strong undergraduate academic performance, a diverse background (including international perspectives), motivation, and alignment with the four research areas of ELIZA.
- Candidates must meet the master’s admission requirements of the hosting institution.
