I am working on building better foundations for machine learning systems. This involves mathematical research into the atoms of machine learning problems, including new ways of theorizing data. I am also interested in the socio-technical systems perspective applied to machine learning systems. Specifically, I am looking at new approaches to fairness in ML systems, generalised notions of privacy, relationships between information and risk, and calculi of uncertainty that go beyond the standard probability theory.
