Karolin Milewski, M.Sc.

I am an ELIZA alumna and currently employed as a doctoral researcher at the German Cancer Research Center, where I apply my passion for physics to improving cancer treatment. The main focus of my research is on image guidance in radiotherapy – a field that strongly relies on the use of AI tools. My most recent work evolves around developing a three-dimensional method for dose measurements of ion beams. I have a strong interest in the application of machine learning in medical physics, as I believe it is essential for achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Previously, I worked at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as part of an interdisciplinary team exploring laser-accelerated particle beams for medical applications. Before that, I gained clinical experience at the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center, deepening my understanding of patient needs.

As an ELIZA scholar during my Master’s studies in physics at Heidelberg University, I focused on magnetic resonance (MR) guided treatments. While pursuing my Bachelor’s degree, I was involved in research on high-dose-rate radiotherapy and spent a semester abroad in Sweden to further specialize in MR imaging.
